The Brain Traffic blog has some good quotations to remember when you feel your web writing is starting to get a bit frilly: Cut.
Reminds me of another good line, from Antoine de Saint-Exupery:
Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.
